Thanks to standards bodies such as the W3C and ECMA and a revival of competition in the browser market, modern browsers have largely eliminated the proprietary extensions and behaviors that plagued browsers in the late 1990s. Gone are the days when developers had to spend countless hours tweaking HTML layout and JavaScript code to get an application to function properly across different browsers. Menu block (http://drupal.org/project/menu_block) allows you to create a block containing a menu tree starting at any arbitrary level of any menu. I find there are two circumstances where I most frequently use this module. First, let s say I m displaying primary menu items horizontally in the site header and using a module like nice_menus or superfish to display secondary menu items as drop-down menu items. However, I don t want tertiary (or deeper) menu items to display in the site header; I want them to display only in a sidebar (or other area) when I m on a secondary menu page. The Menu block module allows me to configure a menu block that displays only these menu links. I also use this when it is better to group multiple menus into a single menu. For example, one common trend in web design is to place four or five columns of menu links into the footer of a site. It is easy to create four or five different menus and place each menu into the footer, but this can clutter the menu administration page and make it difficult to add menu links when creating nodes. This results in multiple menu blocks managed through a single menu.
