You can use System Restore to restore a computer s system files to an earlier point in time. It lets you undo system changes to a computer without affecting the computer users personal files. System Restore is useful if a recently installed program or device driver is causing problems that uninstalling the program or rolling back the driver does not fix. System Restore restores the computer s system to an earlier date when everything worked correctly, but any user file that has been created since that earlier date is not affected. System Restore uses the System Protection feature to regularly create and save restore points on a computer. A restore point is created automatically before any significant change is made to system settings. Restore points are also created on a daily basis by default, typically round about midday. They contain information about registry settings and other system information. You can also create restore points manually. To restore a system to a previous restore point, open System And Maintenance from Control Panel, click System, click System Protection, clear the UAC dialog box as prompted, and click System Restore in the System Protection tab of the System Properties dialog box. The System Restore wizard opens, as shown in Figure 12-27.
