Exchange System Performance Monitor can be used to determine whether an Exchange database is being crawled by Exchange Search. The Full Crawl Mode Status counter of the MSexchange Search Indices Performance object will have a value of 1 during a crawl and 0 once a crawl is complete. The final step to take in troubleshooting problems with Exchange Search is to use the Test-ExchangeSearch cmdlet. Test-ExchangeSearch works by creating a new message and attachment that only the Microsoft Exchange search function can find. The command waits for the created message to be indexed and then attempts to search for that message. Test-ExchangeSearch can be run against a specific mailbox or, if no mailbox is specified, is run against the System Attendant mailbox, as shown in Figure 8-11.
